The fine print

Privacy, plainly.

Last updated: 22 August 2026.

The Product Backchannel is designed to collect as little information as possible. This page describes the current site, not services that may be added later.

What this site collects

The public pages do not ask for your name, email address or account. The site may receive standard technical information from its hosting provider, such as an IP address, browser information, requested URL and approximate request time, in ordinary server logs used for security and delivery.

After Hours reaction buttons use a short reader key so the site can remember whether a browser has selected a reaction and avoid counting the same browser twice for the same message. The reaction itself, post, message and emoji are stored for community counts. The reader key is not intended to identify you by name.

Cookies and local storage

The site does not currently use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. The local development version may use browser local storage to preview reactions when the database API is unavailable. Production reaction preferences use the site’s reaction service.

Analytics, advertising and newsletter

The public site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic, page views and content performance. The Google tag is not loaded on local development URLs. Google may process technical information such as device, browser and approximate location data according to its own policies.

There are currently no advertising scripts or active newsletter provider connected to this site. Before personalised advertising is introduced, the site will add the required consent controls and update this policy with the relevant provider, purpose, data, retention and available choices.

Third-party links

Articles may link to reference material on other websites. Those websites have their own privacy practices, and this policy does not cover what happens when you leave The Product Backchannel.
